December 12th, 2007 Indians looking to make moves

Considering the moves the Detroit Tigers made getting Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis, it is almost a necessity that Cleveland Indians GM Mark Shapiro considers improving the Tribe, too.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Shapiro has been actively talking to the Oakland Athletics about Dan Haren and Joe Blanton and to the Baltimore Orioles about Erik Bedard.

Offense is still be the Indians’ need, but with trade talks for Pittsburgh outfielder Jason Bay and St. Louis third baseman Scott Rolen grounded, Shapiro is exploring different ways to make the Indians better. A rotation of C.C. Sabathia, Fausto Carmona, Haren, Jake Westbrook and Paul Byrd would certainly help neutralize the beast that Detroit’s lineup has become with the addition of Miguel Cabrera, Edgar Renteria and Jacque Jones.

Being able to acquire Bedard or Haren would certainly put a hush on the Tigers end and their moves.  Being able to throw out a dominant one an two pitcher is just as valuable as possessing a dominant lineup in a playoff series.   Even if it means mortgaging the future a little bit, it sure would be nice to add a Bedard or Haren.
